My Transition from Teaching to Instructional Design

Before starting my latest journey, transitioning from teaching to instructional design, I was an educator for over eleven years. My teaching career started as a volunteer teacher at a public school in Canakkale, Turkiye in 2011. I had 48 pupils in the same classroom, which was quite a challenge for a novice teacher; however, they showed me how engaged learners could be, and even today some of them are still in touch.

During my volunteer experience, I always wanted to give the learners more.

Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young.

This feeling prompted me to dig deeper into e-learning. As a complete beginner, I struggled to figure out how to create a webpage to deliver content, conduct online surveys, and encourage the learners to practice with some quizzes. It took me a lot of time to ace; but at the end of the day, I learned how to use Joomla CMS, WordPress, Drupal, and Wondershare QuizCreator (unfortunately not supported today).

Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.

I worked at different private schools. I gained a lot of experience; however, conflicts were, are, and will always be there. What you want to do and what you are allowed to do are not always aligned. No matter how hard you try, sometimes you have to change the way you handle situations.

After working as a team leader and co-coordinator for two years, I found myself in another realm, so I decided to set the course towards another profession, which is “E-learning Design and Training Development”.
